With a Michelin 'Bib Gourmand' to their name, and listed in the 2017 Good Food Guide, I had high hopes. To start, plump scallops, cooked with Iberico pork. Accompanied by compressed apple and burnt apple purée, my senses were in overload! Creamy goats cheese for Mrs Exquisite, creatively served with salt baked beetroot, miso, apple and hazelnuts, the perfect combination of flavour and texture. To follow, BBQ smoked ox cheek beautifully presented with a swede, turnip and carrot fondant. Finished with a horseradish sour cream and beer vinegar dressing. This could well be the best dish I've eaten all year! Lamb fillet for Mrs Exquisite, served pink with salt-baked artichoke and artichoke purée, a faultless dish! To finish, a simple but perfectly baked custard tart with poached pear 'spaghetti' and pear gel. Mrs Exquisite can never resist a brûlée, and the Anchor's seasonal toffee apple brûlée was delicious.
