With its intricate and opulent design, Harrods is both a glance back at historic London and an embracement of the city’s advanced present. The building houses close to 300 departments amongst the hustle and bustle of Knightsbridge, and the famous store has become synonymous with all-things luxury. In line with Harrods’ roots, classic tailoring and hundreds of traditional teas line the shelves, whilst innovative technology and top fashion are organised across the store’s seven floors.
FOOD & DRINK REVAMP
Harrods has been a pioneer in food retail since 1834. The new investment – part of a £200m renovation – in the Food Hall is inspired by Harrods’ history and its continued commitment to offer an unrivalled range of produce. Known as ‘The Taste Revolution!’, the monumental refurbishment will take two years to complete. The first part of the transformation, The Roastery and Bake Hall, opened in November 2017, with three further stages launching in 2018 and 2019. The development has been overseen by interior designers David Collins Studio. The revamp has allowed Harrods to cement itself as the ‘Ultimate Fine Food Destination’. In 2017, Harrods unveiled the Roastery & Bake Hall and has now launched the Fresh Market Hall – bringing everyday essentials done exceptionally well to the forefront.
THE FRESH MARKET HALL
At the heart of the Fresh Market Hall is the redesigned Deli, which offers a range of classics, including beef wellington and salmon en croûte, as well as new dishes such as the ultimate truffle macaroni and cheese. All dishes are freshly prepared each day by Harrods’ 150 in-house chefs, using ingredients sourced directly from the Food Halls.
The new fruit and vegetable offering showcases the freshest produce curated by season. And Harrods’ prestigious customers can create a unique dish prepared at the new Vegetable Butchery where customers can make any vegetable mix desired.
The Fishmonger counter offers an eclectic selection, including a new range of own-label salmon; the largest selection of oysters in the UK; a range of the finest caviars; and native and Canadian lobster.
For cheese lovers, the newly created Truffle Table offers the indulgent option of sprinkling white or black truffle over selected cheeses. The Fresh Market Hall welcomes a diverse range of partner brands – including authentic artisan Italian brand Pasta Evangelists. Meanwhile, Karma by award-winning chef Vineet Bhatia brings a revitalised offering of Indian classics, such as hot soups, roti rolls and salads inspired by his childhood in Mumbai.
Alex Dower, Harrods Director of Food & Restaurants, has promised that "By 2019, the discerning customers will be able to experience the world’s greatest food emporium". Now in the New Year, Exquisite is excited to see the final stages of The Taste Revolution come to life in Harrods as the two-year phased renovation nears completion.
