The Essex Salon Awards is an annual event that recognises the best hair and beauty salons the county has to offer. With an incredible amount of competition, the public was invited to choose who they believed should be among the finalists.
The People’s Choice Award is based on customer service standards, skilled hairdressing and a salon’s capacity to inspire others to work in the hair and beauty sector. Thousands of people voted and the finalists are listed below.
Benjamin Charles (Colchester)
Edward Taylor Hair (Stock)
FX Hair Studio (Leigh-on-Sea)
Gregory Dean (Leigh-on-Sea)
M Riccio Hair Design (Saffron Walden)

Sponsored by Great Lengths, Shortcuts and the Jet Hairdressing academy, the event celebrates the most innovative, creative and high-quality salons across the county. The winner of the People’s Choice award will be recognised as the most exceptional salon and hairdressers for 2018. We spoke to Kate Jeffery, Managing Director at Salon Essex Awards, to find out more…
Why is the event important for local hair and beauty businesses?
‘Consumers are generally overwhelmed with a constant bombardment of adverts, there are so many options available to them, and businesses need to use every tactic to persuade them to spend their money with you. To have award-winning credentials adds impact to your business profile as a trustworthy, knowledgeable business, who are experts in their field.’
For any new businesses starting out, what would you recommend to ensure they are shortlisted at events like this in the future?
‘If you are proud of your business, the work you do and your staff who help you realise your dreams, then there is nothing better than entering and winning an award. To win, or even be shortlisted for a local award specific to your industry comes with huge benefits, and is a massive calling card for your salon.
Not only does it prove to your current customers your expertise and that you really know your stuff, they can bring you new customers too. They are a great way to boost team morale and can help your business attract the best talent around.’
Out of the ten finalists, eight of the salons feature men’s services including Benjamin Charles, Gregory Dean, Edward Taylor Hair, M Riccio Hair Design, MACK Hairdressing, Novo Silhouette Du Barry and FX Hair studio.
Gregory Dean and MACK Hairdressing are celebrating consecutive nominations for the biggest prize having featured in The Essex Salon Awards 2017.
