Burberry and Vivienne Westwood Collaboration
The highly anticipated collaboration between the two fashion giants is now available to buy.
Back in July Burberry’s chief creative officer, Riccardo Tisci announced plans to work alongside British designer Vivienne Westwood on his Instagram page. Now as the highly-anticipated unisex collection and campaign are unveiled, it’s also available to buy.
The two iconic brands celebrate British style with many of Vivienne Westwood’s iconic collections reimagined in Burberry’s signature check. As the brand’s website states it’s ‘a union of punk and heritage, rebellion and tradition, the past and the future.’ Best-selling pieces with a punk twist include a wool mini kilt, check T-shirt with zip details, slogan printed tights, double-breasted jackets with either a shawl collar or an oversized point, a beret and lace-up platform shoes.
Photographer David Sims shot the campaign in London with models including Sistren, Leonard Emmanuel, Josh Quinton, Claudia Lavender and Kate Moss, wearing a vintage check silk shirt. Westwood and her design partner Andreas Kronthaler also made an appearance.
Both Riccardo Tisci, Burberry’s chief creative officer, and Westwood, known for her environmental activism, support Cool Earth, a UK based non-profit organisation that works alongside rainforest communities to stop deforestation and climate change. An oversized T-shirt with a handwritten message from Westwood is dedicated to the cause.
“When I first started at Burberry, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to approach her to do something.” Tisci said about Westwood, who first inspired him to become a designer. “She is rebel, a punk and unrivalled in her unique representation of British style, which has inspired so many of us. I am so incredibly proud of what we will be creating together.”
This union marks Tisci’s first collaboration since he succeeded Christopher Bailey at the historic fashion house in March. But it won’t be his last as his said he would regularly drop fresh products and limited edition collaborations at Burberry.
