Chelmsford City Racecourse is Britain’s newest racecourse offering thrilling all-weather racing under the mesmerizing light of its Champagne fluted floodlights, perfect for those looking for a horse racecourse in Chelmsford. The venue also highlights its versatility with a huge range of non-raceday events. Now into its third year, the racecourse continues to strive for excellence in all areas, already having won multiple Racecourse Association Excellence Accolades, most recently for staff customer service and visitor information. The brand-new facilities provide a wonderful setting from which to anchor your raceday experience. The Grandstand boasts two restaurants, one ideal for families, friends and corporate events, the other, a more formal environment and perfect to celebrate special occasions. The restaurants are complimented by the lively Sports Bar area offering various raceday packages and bars for general admission. In terms of prize money offered to our racing connections, Chelmsford City Racecourse consistently achieves its aim of sitting near the top of the table, with regard to value, and the course is reaping the rewards by hosting competitive races with large fields of runners.
Built on the site of the previous Gt Leighs racecourse, Chelmsford City is not only the newest racecourse in Britain, but is also one of only 5 fully floodlit all-weather tracks in the UK. With the distinctive shape of the bespoke made Champagne-flute shaped lights, the racecourse pioneers sleek design, the newly constructed Grandstand having been short-listed for an architectural award in 2016. The course opened for racing on 11th January 2015 with the first public raceday on 1st February in the same year. Throughout the two and a half years of operation, the course has prospered, offering a huge variety of events including, but not limited to, live music concerts, obstacle races, family fun days, wedding exhibitions and Arabian race fixtures. The annual Ladies Day is already an unmissable date in the Essex social calendar and the live music nights have welcomed some of the best known British artists including Simply Red and UB40 as well as some freshest new talents and an eclectic mix of genres.
