13 New Flight Routes From Southend in 2019!

Great news, especially for those in south-east Essex! Ryanair is to launch a series of 13 new flight routes direct from Southend Airport, starting in summer 2019. This allows the convenience of departing from a local airport which currently has far less traffic and queues than London alternatives. Plus, hear about our favourite route of the minute, VENICE…

The new destinations will be Alicante, Barcelona Reus, Bilbao, Brest, Malaga and Palma in Spain, the Greek island of Corfu, the little known yet intriguing base of Cluj in Romania, Dublin in Ireland, Faro in Portugal's Algarve, Kosice in Slovakia, and Milan Bergamo and Venice in Italy. Ryanair has promised customers 60 new flights weekly so there will be ample opportunity for a European getaway.

While all of these locations are exciting, we especially recommend an exquisite stay in Venice. Between Southend and Stansted options, there will be flights available on a daily basis. Read on to find out our top choices for either a family break or a romantic getaway with your other half....

Why We Love Venice: This picturesque city was one of the nominees for the 2019 European Capital of Culture and, if you've seen the Instagram photos, it will come as no surprise. It is home to a legendary annual carnival, which offers masked balls and a parade of brightly coloured costumes. Then there is the famous Biennale event, which attracts more than 500,000 visitors to its prestigious art exhibition, and the Storica Regatta, which will take place every first Sunday next September and will send brightly coloured boats soaring down the canals.

Where To Stay For Families: JW Marriott

Why We Love It: There are child-friendly cooking classes on-site via the Sapori Cooking Academy, where your little ones will love learning how to make - and of course eat - traditional Venetian biscuits. The Sagra rooftop restaurant offers stunning views, plus a personalised menu just for children, There is a family pool, a kid's club open every day of the week, and even an interactive water fountain where they can create their own inventions using huge waterproof foam bricks. Besides all of that, this hotel is almost unparalleled in its luxury. It also boasts a location on its own private island, Isola Delle Rose. Set directly on the islet, guests can literally take a boat ride direct to the front door, and then soar off again for excursions to St Mark's Square.

Where To Stay For Couples: Radisson Blu San Marco

Why We Love It: Radisson will be debuting the hotel in 2019, but if you are familiar with this trademark brand, you will already know the level of comfort to expect. All 50 rooms will offer canal views, and there will be a spacious outdoor fine dining terrace. Within easy reach of the luxury shopping district, this spot is perfect for ladies who unapologetically seek to be pampered by their loved one in one of Europe's most stylish cities. Although the location has been kept a closely guarded secret while the building undergoes renovation, Radisson guarantees that it's perfectly placed for romantic sight-seeing, as it will be mere steps away from Saint Mark's Square. Soar down the canal in a luxury boat trip, take a sunset stroll or find a beautiful spot to propose.
