A fantastic menu is on offer at The Fox & Goose, making deciding what to have a tough choice. The charcuterie board was a great choice as a sharing starter; a delicious mix of Napoli salami, chorizo, prosciutto, bresoala terrine with olive pot, ratatouille relish and crusty white bread. My main course was the pan fried salmon and sea bass, complemented perfectly by spring onion and sundried tomato crushed new potatoes with prawn cream - a firm favourite with many of their loyal diners. Mrs Exquisite opted for slow roasted belly of pork, served with mashed potato, Symonds cider jus and crispy crackling; a gastro pub classic cooked superbly. We opted to share the cheesecake with rhubarb compote and creamy white chocolate ice cream - just wow!
I hold English wine in very high regard, hence my excitement when we visited The West Street Vineyard. To start we enjoyed smoked ricotta; served with a thyme crumb, buttermilk wafers and apple puree. A simple fresh dish, with just a hint of smoke from the ricotta. Heritage carrots followed; a vegan dish, which celebrated the humble carrot beautifully. With hazelnuts, carrot puree, fennel flowers and dill - delicious. Maldon salt marsh lamb for me, with charcoal powder, cauliflower, dauphinoise potato and a triple stock sauce. Both mains were a glory. To finish, burnt Coggeshall pears with air-dried ham and Maldon smoked blue cheese; a unique take on the classic cheese board. Mrs Exquisite couldn't resist the wonderful double brownie, with toffee, cream and Maldon sea salt. A culinary triumph on all accounts.
