‘Icing on the cake’
Brentwood School’s Claudia Moore completed a remarkable achievement at the Pony European Championships. Securing an individual bronze medal, she has become the youngest Brit ever to win a medal at the competition. She also won a team gold medal last week in a memorable few days.
Featuring 29 riders from 16 different countries including Sweden, France and Ireland, Claudia was faced with a wide range of abilities and experience. But she was not intimidated and showed skill and determination to produce an exceptional start in the first round. Unfortunately, she made 4 faults in the second round, but her composure and ability pulled her through into the 3rd place face off.
Her opponent, Romane Orhant, finished the course in 52.63 seconds with a total of 8 penalties. Claudia bravely entered the arena and with a finish of 50.34 seconds and confirmed her podium finish.
Other Essex riders are enjoying big victories this season so why not consider taking up a sport for yourself?
After her phenomenal victory, Claudia said,
‘When I found out that I had the chance to jump off for the Bronze, I just knew that I had to give it everything I could as it could be the only opportunity I ever have. To have won a team medal and then to win an individual medal was just icing on the cake.’
Clare Whitaker, the Chef D’Equipe with Team LeMieux, said,
‘She showed maturity beyond her years. Its difficult for anyone when you are competing at this level with medals at stake and for her to achieve it at just 13 years of age at her first championships is incredible.’
Following recent success at the Inter-Schools Show Jumping Competition, it is becoming clear that Brentwood School is one of Essex’s greatest forces for equestrian success at major events.
Claudia may have won an individual medal but she had the backing of an entire school behind her.
