Brinn Bevan: The Future of Essex Gymnastics
Max Whitlock lead the path for Essex gymnastics, and now Brinn Bevan has Olympic ambitions
Sports and leisure provider Everyone Active gives Exquisite the low-down on Brinn Bevan, the county’s up-and-coming artistic gymnast…
Max Whitlock and Saskia Clark brought three golds and a bronze medal back to Essex between them from the 2016 Rio Olympics, meaning Essex performed better than both Sweden and Poland in the Games. Now, there are scores of up-and-coming athletes from the county looking to hit the big time in the sporting world. One such artistic gymnast from Everyone Active's Basildon-based sporting village is Brinn Bevan.
At just 20 years old, Bevan has already attained serious honours on the international stage.
As well as competing at the highest level with Team GB at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the artistic gymnast landed silver at the 2015 World Championships and bronze on the pommel horse at the European Games the same year. Now, he’s targeting the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for medals.
Not that it’s been plain sailing competing in a sport he’s dedicated himself to since the age of seven. He has suffered a number of potentially career-ending injuries, the most recent of which was a torn cartilage in his shoulder and a stress fracture on his wrist. But following a string of successful operations and a programme of rehabilitation, Bevan has returned to top form to become one of Team GB’s rising stars.
“I have been to most of the big events in gymnastics and made it as part of the team, which was great and gave me some invaluable experience. Looking forward, however, I would not only love to carry on making the team, I would also like to make finals of my own.
“So in the build up to Tokyo 2020, that’s what I am dedicated to. I want to develop my skills even further to challenge for finals and medals.”
