Dior's Peter Philips reveals how to get a natural look with men's makeup
Dior's beauty guru Peter is meticulous when it comes to what make-up is needed for each show and the Winter collection was no different. Whether that is applying a specific moisturiser beforehand or using the right natural tone each product has been carefully by Philips himself from Dior's extensive range.Peter revealed the Dior makeup products he used on male models in the Winter shows
He continues: "For a clean flawless face I used the Dior backstage line, in particular the face and body foundation. The 40 different colours that make up the range adapt to every skin tone while its ultra-fine and light formula creates a perfectly natural impression. When needed, I carried out touch-ups using Dior forever undercover concealer.
To structure the brows, I used the Dior backstage brow palette and brow styler. As a finishing touch, lips were moisturized and plumped with lip maximizer, with its shine toned down, while nails looked clean in gel coat."
It's not just Dior however who have thrown their hat into the ring when it comes to mens make-up with Tom Ford, Chanel and Marc Jacobs all producing their own lines where as companies such as MMUK have been going for over 7 years. Dior's beauty guru revealed he used foundation, as well as a brow styler on male models
Let's also not forget Mr Jean Paul Gaultier launching Le Mâle Tout Beau Tout Propre fifteen years ago with his range including a brow and lash groomer, an illuminating moisturiser, concealer and bronzing powder that flew off the shelves without so much as a second thought.
Dior's Winter 2019-2020 menswear collection designed by Kim Jones at Plateau Joffre, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris was a spectacle to behold.
With models being carted along a conveyor belt showing off the collection which also had collaboration from artist, Raymond Pettibon. The overall collection followed muted tones with some pieces showing bold graphics and bright patterns.
Speaking on his inspiration on the show, Peter Philips says: "My inspiration for the look of this show is the combination between a very natural beautifying men's grooming with added cyber elements, so I used backstage foundation the face and body foundation for beautiful skin a natural grooming with a little bit on concealer if necessary."
Peter also recognises the vision of men's makeup becoming more mainstream: "I think a modern man doesn't want to be placed in a box.
"I think it's about equality between men and women almost like a unisex universe in which our backstage line is ideal because it represents really what a modern man wants in make-up."
With brands such as Tom Ford and Chanel now delving into the world of men's make up it's not going too far to say that there is a welcoming place for make-up in the male market. Whether you fancy going for a subtle foundation to cover those imperfections or fancy going for the full package you can expect to see it becoming a lot more prominent as 2019 unfolds.
