Harry Gordon Selfridge’s dream was to open a store where “everyone is welcome.” So back in 1906, he travelled from Chicago to London and did just that when Selfridges & Co opened on Oxford Street in 1909. With live music and displays, famous window displays unlike no other and even championing women’s rights and creating the first toilets for woman, Selfridges changed way we all shop.
