As one of Essex’s finest gastropubs, we were excited to sample some of the Main menu and Special menu dishes. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table which was beautifully presented with crisp, neatly folded napkins. Instantly, I appreciated the rustic yet clean atmosphere and felt relaxed in the cosy setting.
The Star Inn’s attention to detail was showcased in the classic and functional decor. For starters, I had the Smoked Salmon Croute which was delicious and well presented. The cucumber was complimenting and added a fresh, light touch. Mr Exquisite couldn’t decide as all the dishes sounded lovely, but opted for the Shellfish Thermidor.
The seafood special was packed with shellfish and wrapped in a delightful thermidor sauce. He described the bread as the perfect accompaniment as it helped him soak up the luxurious sauce. Next, our main courses arrived and I welcomed the Sea Bream, whilst Mr Exquisite enjoyed the Lamp Rump. The fish was cooked to perfection with side vegetables and wild rice. It is the best fish I have ever eaten!
The Lamp Rump was described as succulent, well cooked and presented exquisitely. With just enough room for dessert, Mr Exquisite chose the Baked Lemon Tart which was light and zesty, and I enjoyed the Mini Chocolate Pot which was dreamingly indulgent! The perfect end to a fabulous evening.
