How did this business idea come about?
"Two years ago, after a long career in banking with JP Morgan which spanned Luxembourg and Bermuda with 8 years in New York, I flipped my life upside down, hung up my suit and trained to become an expert in the yoga and meditation field having practiced for many years as a way to deal with corporate life in the concrete jungle (no doubt many of you have been or are there..!).
"I have always believed that yoga should be made more accessible to people willing to practise and I discovered that many were unable to fit group classes into their schedules or were simply too intimidated to attend them! I also recognised that the commute to teach various classes was hindering my ability to optimise my schedule. And so, Yogi2Me was born allowing users to fit yoga into their schedule by choosing a teacher to come to them anywhere, anytime.
Our mission is for yoga and wellness to be increasingly accessible to the people and to cater to the changing market and provide vetted fitness professionals to people's’ homes."
Which is more popular, your corporate business yoga or private home yoga?
"It has been heartening to observe just how popular yoga and wellness is becoming in the workplace and we now work with inspiring companies providing yoga and wellness teachers at their offices. According to the UK Department of Mental Health, depression and anxiety account for almost 70 million days off sick per year and cost an average of £1K per employee annually. Implementing yoga and meditation into the workplace can lead to 40% reduced absenteeism and little do many people know, they produce the same ‘feel good’ chemicals as prescription drugs except this way is more healthy, natural and less expensive.
"Our private clients tend to be beginners who are keen to start a yoga practice or students who find it difficult to accommodate gym classes into their busy schedules. Private yoga is, for them, a way to learn safely and also the way yoga was originally taught. Thus, for us it is very much an even playing field between private and corporate and the most wonderful of experiences to watch how it is transforming people’s daily lives both at the office and at home."
Have you seen an increase in the popularity of Yoga over the last few years? If so, why do you think that is?
"It goes without saying that yoga is evermore present in a society which seeks clean and healthy living. Yoga and meditation’s increasing popularity is not simply a result of another trendy workout, but because it impacts the body and mind. Yoga is providing mental clarity and fortitude at a time where our society needs it the most. We have become human DOing and Yoga helps us rebalance as human BEing. It is a practice for all! No excuses of not being flexible or strong enough – go at your own pace, do what feels comfortable and I have no doubt that over time you will reap the benefits at a scale you would never have imagined."
Are you planning to expand outside of London anytime soon?
The future is exciting for Yogi2Me and will surely expand into other major cities to bring more yoga and wellness into people's lives. We have spent two years to creating and fine tuning our business model in order to be able to replicate and expand in other similar cities. We seek to provide only the best service to our clients and will be replicating the model in other markets.
What are the main benefits of doing yoga?
Yoga as a practice contributes significantly to both strength and flexibility and only adds to your energy levels. However, it is most important to address how yoga can help oneself mentally. The objective of the physical practice is to enable the meditation process. The more we meditate, the better it is for the world we live in. This is why I truly believe that being a yoga and meditation teacher is the most important job in the world today. Surely we don't need anymore bankers, but good yoga teachers!
