An art subscription box
If your child has yet to make up their mind on their preferred medium, why not get them an art subscription box? Signing them up to receive a carefully curated selection of goods on a monthly basis enables them to try out different art forms.
One month they could receive a sculpting kit, and the next month they could get materials for sketching or painting, so there’s always something new to look forward to. Once your child ultimately decides on a medium, you can donate some excess materials to the nearest community centre, or donate a subscription box in your child’s name as a meaningful Christmas gift to someone in need.
Top-of-the-line coloured pencils
Coloured pencils are essential to a budding artist’s kit as they're versatile, portable, and can be used for anything from sketching or doodling to colouring in. However, not all coloured pencils are the same. Beginner or student grade pencils usually have less pigment and are difficult to blend, so if your child prefers using coloured pencils to other art materials, getting them good quality pencil sets can be a good investment.
Among the coloured pencil sets that are popular in the art world are Prismacolor Premier, Caran D’Ache Luminance, Faber Castell, and Derwent Inktense. For something truly luxe, you can get Louis Vuitton’s set of coloured pencils,
which were released earlier this year. The set contains 40 pencils housed inside a leather roll-up case with the LV monogram on the exterior, making it perfect for a tween or teen who’s a budding art/fashion connoisseur.
Customised paint brushes
If your child always seems to lose their paintbrush, why not get them a set of customised paint brushes? You can get a set of red sable, Kolinsky sable, or red sable blend brushes and have them engraved with your child’s name. You can also get a personalised leather brush roll case to hold all the brushes when they’re not in use. Roll cases are available in art stores, but you can have a leather goods maker customise one for your child.
Art can develop a child’s confidence and creativity, and it enables them to express themselves in a positive way. Provide your little ones with quality art supplies to inspire them to create at home and in school, and to help them to keep appreciating all forms of visual art as they grow.
