Exquisite Exclusive Interview With The Style Sisters
Where did the idea come from?
We’re best friends and have always tried to push each other into doing something with design or fashion. We were out one night and said why don’t we join forces and just do it – it happened overnight.
What do the Style Sisters offer?
Something completely different. We are the perfect duo and our skills go hand-in-hand. We offer wardrobe detoxes with a makeover vibe and can style rooms too.
Why have you been so successful?
Hard work. We were lucky in the beginning, we had a few celebrity clients who helped put us on the map, but now it’s word of mouth. We don’t advertise, we purely use Instagram. Celebrities recommend us and it’s a snowball effect. We’re known for our reputation, service and being perfectionists. So many people just want to cry at the end of a wardrobe detox as they are so overwhelmed. Not even about how tidy it is, it brings out such an emotional and mental aspect.
What happens during a detox?
We get stuck in straight away. We always say it is going to get very messy before it gets very tidy. We pull every single thing out! It is carnage but it is organised chaos. We make a sell and a keep pile. Getting rid of things is a lot easier for clients when they have us to do it. Then, we organise in a way so that it is easy to maintain. Everything is immaculate. It is so you can grab items and put back with ease.
Do you have different roles?
I’m extra, I make sure there is finger spaces between all the hangers. It has to look like a showroom when we leave. Charlotte is a machine who wants to get everything out and categorise whereas I’m a faffer. We get into a flow. Charlotte gets stuck in and I take things slow, so we need each other.
Who was the first celebrity client?
in Birmingham. In the beginning, we sent messages out to everybody in the hope that someone would see it. For us, Vicky Pattison
was the game changer and turning point. She was so nice too! We drove six hours to her home in Newcastle on the hottest day of the year, worked 12 hours straight on her wardrobe and then drove back!
Which celebrity wardrobe did you most enjoy?
Vogue and Spencer
were a memorable duo. We did both of their wardrobes and their baby’s and they were lovely.
Which celebrity had the most stuff?
had a lot of stuff but it was organised. Her sister was moving in and so, her walk-in wardrobe was becoming a bedroom. Everything had to be moved into the wardrobe in her room which was already full. She had 30 bags of clothes but everything was amazing, it was hard to throw any of it away.
Have you helped re-style any celebrity homes?
Yes, Danielle Armstrong.
She just moved into her new home and it needed accessorising, styling and characterising, so she gave us a budget and we got started. We sent her a mood board, personal shopped, took products to her house, made all the flat-packed products and styled it all. It just looked so homely with the finishing touches.
What is the response like from a client after a wardrobe detox?
Every person says “you have changed my life”. It gives a new lease of life. Honestly, in the back of your head, subconsciously without even realising it, that messy drawer in your wardrobe is irritating you. People don’t expect to feel so different but you genuinely feel the weight of the room lift. Lisa Snowdon
was so excited when we worked on her wardrobe as she could then see so many different outfits that she didn’t see before.
What is the best way to organise a wardrobe?
With open door wardrobes, colour coding looks amazing. Jess Wright’s
wardrobe was like a showroom. We ended up colour coordinating the whole wardrobe. It looked phenomenal. It was by far the most satisfying celebrity wardrobe and the pics don’t do it justice.
How do you stop clothes falling off their hangers?
Velvet hangers or you can buy rubber bands to go on the end of plastic hangers to stop things falling off.
What are your favourite shops for organising clutter/storage?
Ikea. It is plain, crisp, looks neat, and it’s affordable. There is definitely a gap in the market for good storage solutions that actually look good, so maybe watch this space. For good jewellery storage, we recommend My Stackers,
which has really nice elegant pieces.
Are your homes/wardrobes as tidy and organised as your clients?
Yes! There is no shoving things in wardrobes in our houses, we put things away nicely!
What’s your favourite restaurant or brunch spot?
in Chigwell or The Olive Tree
Which local shops do you go to?
Never Fully Dressed
in Buckhurst Hill or Twenty Six Fashion
on Queen’s Road. We mostly shop online with Zara. Especially if it is for a photo shoot the night before!
