I am sitting at a table dressed with white linen and elegant duck egg blue china. It is totally charming - pretty, understated and effective. There is a menu, which is a lovely touch as so many places leave you guessing what you are about to eat.
The afternoon tea is served on a traditional three tiered cake stand with savoury at the bottom, scones in the middle and cakes on top. The sandwiches are a lovely balance of flavours with something for everyone.
My favourite is the smoked salmon and cream cheese and my son devoured the chicken roll. The scones are fruity and light and served with irresistible clotted cream and Tiptree jam.
Then to the best bit, the sweet treats - I confess it is a race of fingers between my son and I to pick our favourite cakes. The delicious bite-sized treats boast a tempting selection of sweet, creamy and indulgent desserts.
My favourite quirky touch is the edible pebbles which offer a clever blend of chocolate and raspberry flavours - a fitting addition considering the lovely seaside location.
Cliffs Pavilion provided a truly enjoyable afternoon tea in Essex with tasty food and stunning views. I feel incredibly lucky to have this on my doorstep and highly recommend!
