Rochford Arts Festival
Rochford Arts Festival is running from Thursday 12th September to Thursday 26th September.
With over 37 venues and 46 artists including groups, charities, schools and organisations Rochford Arts Festival has risen from the ashes this year. RAF has been developed from the established Rochford Art Trail which celebrates its eleventh year. Last year after losing funding, Rochford Art Trial was picked-up by Rochford Parish Council and managed a small 10 venue event. For 2019 a volunteering group of artists, along with a Coordinator has grown the event, rebranded it, built links with the community to produce not only the much bigger Art trail but also a broader variety of events to create a Festival.
The Festival will run from Thursday 12th September to Thursday 26th September, with the Arts Trail at the heart of its events, displaying fine art to textile art and pottery to photography. The quality of artwork this year is very high, with lots of new artists to the trail being attracted. Free Guided Tours will be taking place on Friday 13th & 20th September.
Artists will be offering workshops; ‘Introduction to Charcoal’, ‘Composition in Photography’ and ‘Wind Chime Pottery’. These are for beginners who want to just give it a go. If you are someone who would rather watch, come along to a watercolour demonstration by Hannah Cattano. View exhibitions and artwork by Roche Art Group, Rochford Primary School, King Edmund School and Chase High School, our artists of the future!
To prepare for Discover 2020 next year RAF are running a free to enter Photography Competition with a theme of ‘Discovering Rocford’ the competition is open to everyone. The top twelve photos will be placed on public display during the Art Tail with the overall winner being selected by a public vote during the festival. The winner will receive a one to one workshop courtesy of SAAF Photography and a canvas print of the winning image. Entries can be submitted between 26th July & 26th August 2019. Entry forms available from Rochford Library or at http://tiny.cc/Art_Trail_PhotoComp”
Other events that will be taking place are Charity Quiz night and Charity Auction at The Marlborough Head, in aid of Trust Links, a local charity which helps people with mental health through arts based activities and other rehabilitating programmes. Open Arts is another organisation working with people with mental health, who will be displaying approx. 200 pieces of art in Rochford Hospital.
A variety of Music will be performed at The Miley and The Marlborough Head throughout the Festival. All of this would not be possible without the sponsorship from Caremark Ltd, Rochford & Southend and Rotary Club of Rochford, plus support from Rochford Parish Council and Front Architecture, Trust Links.
