Search is On for Southend Museum Architect
The best family news you need to know this spring
Plans for Southend’s new museum have taken a huge leap forward after Southend-on-Sea Borough Council stepped up their search for an architect to carry out the ambitious project! The Thames Estuary Museum would be used to house the gold-encrusted relics of Southend’s Saxon king – including bowls, buckles and a sword – as well as the 350-year-old shipwreck of The London, uncovered recently in the Thames estuary. Sleek and contemporary in design, the museum would include a planetarium, restaurant, shop and multi-storey car park and merge into the 22-acre Cliff Gardens on the Western Esplanade. A car park consisting of 200 spaces will provide the foundations of the museum, with the whole project costing £50 million.

Colchester Zoo have welcomed an exciting new addition – a female Amur Tiger called Taiga. The zoo is already home to two Siberian tigers, a male and female; the largest and palest of all tiger sub-species, their habitat includes some of the coldest places on Earth. Originating from Amur, a region on the China-Russia border, they are listed as endangered. colchester-zoo.com
