Six Nations For all The Family - Rugby Special
Why not take the whole family down to your local rugby club to enjoy the Six Nations fixtures?
The Six Nations tournament kicked off this weekend with a whole host of thrilling games, delighting rugby fans all over the country. On Saturday we held our breath as a strong Welsh side gained a convincing victory over a chaotic Scottish team, and Ireland, with revenge still on their mind, nearly threw it away to a determined French team, only to be saved at the last second with an incredible drop goal by the nations hero, Johnny Sexton. Then on Sunday, England finally found their form in the second half to destroy the Italians. As fans around the world brace themselves for the best 6 weeks in the rugby calendar, non-rugby fans can’t help but get caught up in the magic of The Six Nations. Venturing far and wide to support their team, hardened fans travel to stadiums all over Europe, but those of us left behind don’t have to miss out on all the fun. Over the weekend, rugby clubs up and down the country welcomed many fans supporting England's quest to win the grand slam. With a good mix of Welsh, Irish and Scottish supporters also watching the game in these clubs, a great atmosphere and friendly banter was guaranteed, no matter who was winning. If you missed out, don't worry! With 5 games still to play, there's plenty of time to get fired up and join in the fun. In Essex, many rugby clubs are open to members and non members, giving locals a opportunity to socialise and enjoy the games in a friendly club atmosphere. One of these is the child friendly Westcliff Rugby Club
, in Southend-on-Sea. Westcliff will show all the England games and families - with or without children - are welcome. Other local clubs well worth considering are Southend RFC
or Chelmsford RFC.
Both are family friendly and can promise a fantastic atmosphere come match day. If you're searching from a more traditional pub in which to enjoy the game, here are some of our top recommendations for venues in Essex showing the Six Nations:
