Diet and nutrition
We get our energy from what we eat and getting the balance right is vital for helping us to feel good.
Tip: You wouldn’t expect a car to run without any fuel, therefore it's important to keep topping up our bodies with good nutrition and fluid. This may sound like an obvious tip but so many people skip meals, avoid important foods groups such as carbohydrates on a mission to feel good, but actually leave themselves feeling depleted. Did you know carbohydrates are our brains preferred source of energy? But when we talk about carbohydrates we are aiming for a diet containing more whole grain starchy carbohydrates (such as wholegrain bread, wholewheat pasta and grains) and fewer refined carbohydrates (such as biscuits and cakes).
With so many pressures from modern day life, stress is a big issue for many people. Stress negatively affects our energy levels, can lead to poor food choices and there’s emerging research showing that it even affects our gut bacteria, possibly leading to various health issues.
Tip: Stresses from your day can often become an obstacle to getting to sleep, which can make you feel even more tired the following day (vicious circle!). Research has shown that finding ways to unwind before bed; such as 15 minutes of meditation, reading, mindfulness, yoga or simply switching your phone off can have enormous benefits. Did you know that the blue light from your phone can affect your ability to get to sleep? Turn your phone onto night mode at least 2 hours before you plan to turn in to get your melatonin flowing!
