Essex Food and Drink Festival preview

This weekend, the Essex Food and Drink Festival descends once again, upon the historic grounds of Cressing Temple in Witham. Now in its 7th year and with an exciting program of events and classes, the party atmosphere for which the festival is known, promises to be bigger than ever. The big draw, as always, will be the celebrity chef demonstrations. Where James Martin (pictured) and Nadiya Hussain, winner of The Great British Bake Off 2015, will be in the house, sharing delectable recipes, useful tips and entertaining stories. With one or two giggles along the way. Local boys, The Galvin Brothers, will also be in attendance, giving the lowdown on some special barbecue recipes, on the Broil King BBQ stage New for this year is the Fisher & Paykel Social Kitchen; a collaborative space where expert chefs will be cooking all day long. Providing elegant and tasty food samples, conjured up from a range of premium award-winning ovens and kitchen appliances. And for the more discerning gourmand, Ann’s Smart School of Cookery is on hand, with a range of bespoke masterclasses to help you polish up your skills in the kitchen. Featuring the best of Essex and East Anglia, around 140 local artisan producers, brewers and traders are all set to pitch up and with two food courts, you could quite easily eat and drink your way around the world. Our top picks would be Hadley’s Dairy, for their award winning, gluten free ice creams and sorbets in assorted flavours. A visit to Hayman’s Gin would also be in order, as they are offering tutored tasting sessions throughout the weekend. In the words of Festival Director, Anne Pocock – ‘Laughter is brightest where food is best – good food, good wine, good friends, good times – you can find it all Cressing Temple barns.’ Get there early to avoid the queues and have a fabulous time.
