The Apollo Victoria Theatre is one of the finest theatres in London, seating 2,328 people the theatre is steeped in history and has seen some of the greatest theatrical performances in the world on the illustrious stage. With such shows as Wicked, Saturday Night Fever, Starlight Express and The Sound of Music having been performed the theatre has always hosted the greatest talent performances across the capital.
Opening in 1930 as a cinema it cost £250,000 and hosted variety and big band acts. Throughout the years the theatre has nearly been shut down on several occasions until it did finally close down in 1976. After staying empty for 5 years the theatre reopened with a Shirley Bassey concert which saw great success and it began the bounce back for the acclaimed venue.
Over the years to follow several shows came and went until Andrew Lloyd Webber opened Starlight Express which ran for 18 years and saw over 7,400 performances. Currently the theatre is currently showing the hit musical Wicked which has been running since September 2006. The theatre recently celebrated a landmark 4000 performances over the years and with such world renowned shows on offer it is no surprise as to why.
