In Years 1 and 2 children build on their Foundation Stage skills and follow an exciting and challenging curriculum in which most lessons are taught by the class teacher. These include English (literacy), Maths (numeracy), Humanities and Science. In addition there are specialist teachers for a number of subjects including French, ICT, PE, Music and Drama.
Our deliberately smaller classes allow the children to benefit from more individual attention for every pupil. The transition from Kindergarten to Year 1 is an exciting time for children and our teachers work together closely to ensure a smooth passage.
The pupils follow a broad and interesting curriculum that reflects the national strategies, with a focus on English, reading and maths skills in the mornings. There are weekly homework activities including reading, spellings and number work.
As well as a strong focus on the academic subjects and a particular focus in English, Mathematics and Science, our pupils in Years 3 to 6 have a creative and rich curriculum with specialist teachers for Languages, Music, Drama, ICT and Art. We encourage our pupils to be innovative and inquisitive; we want them to be engaged as we believe this enables them to make the maximum progress possible.
Our Year 6 pupils are taught in the Seniors to help prepare them earlier for the transition to Year 7 and beyond. We have found that this helps to acclimatise them for the rigours of the senior curriculum.
Braeside School is a privately-owned independent day school for girls aged two and a half to 16 in Buckhurst Hill. It’s a small school with a big vision. The belief is in the value of small classes in which teaching both extends and supports, where teachers give quality feedback to pupils. Braeside is an all-through school which aims to nurture and develop the academic, creative and personal skills in each of its pupils, from Early Years through to GCSE. Everyone at Braeside is valued as a unique individual who has their own contribution to make to the school community.
In September 2015, Braeside became part of the Oak-Tree Group of Schools.
